2024 Nations League draw: Serbia in the top division, rules changed

Here is who Serbia can play with in the new Nations League that awaits us this fall. It is possible that we will also be up against Croatia… What is this about?

Until now, only the group winners in “Division A” went to the final four, but now it will be expanded to include the top eight teams – two from each group. In addition, the third-placed team in “Division A” will play a playoff against the second-placed team in “Division B” for a place in a higher rank, while the weakest team in the group will automatically be relegated to a lower division.

The promotion/relegation changes also apply to all other divisions of the Nations League. In tomorrow’s draw, Serbia will be in the fourth – weakest, pot, and we already know in advance that the only teams we cannot play against are Scotland, Israel, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Here’s what the pot for the “A” division will look like:
POT ONE: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Netherlands. POT TWO: Denmark, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary.

POT THREE: Switzerland, Germany, Poland, France. POT FOUR: Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, SERBIA, and Scotland.

from September 7 to November 19, 2024. After that, the matches for promotion and survival will take place from March 20 to 25, while the final four tournament is scheduled for June 4 to 8.

The performance in the Nations League is also important when it comes to the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The top four teams from the Nations League, which have not reached the World Cup playoff through qualifications, will play the playoff along with 12 other second-placed teams from the qualifications.

In total, four national teams will qualify for the World Cup in this way. POT TWO: Finland, Ukraine, Iceland, Norway.

POT THREE: Slovenia, Ireland, Albania, Montenegro. POT FOUR: Georgia, Greece, Turkey, Kazakhstan.

POT TWO: Azerbaijan, “Kosovo”, Bulgaria, Faroe Islands. POT THREE: North Macedonia, Slovakia, Northern Ireland, Cyprus.

POT FOUR: Belarus, Lithuania/Gibraltar, Estonia, Latvia. POT TWO: Malta, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein.
